About Little Joe & Ginny...

Little Joe Micale earned the title of Hairstylist to the Stars from his earliest moments as a professional in the hair business.  He was hired by Cosmo Sardo, owner of the hair salon known the world over as Cosmo's Hairstyling Salon in Hollywood.  The salon was located 40 paces around the corner from Schwab's Pharmacy, famous for decades as Hollywood's Hangout.  Cosmo’s claimed to have more Movie & TV Celebrity Clients than any other haircutting establishment.

Little Joe is literally a self-taught hairstylist.  During his earliest days as a freshman at Ohio University, Joe started cutting hair for his dorm buddies “as a joke.  But they were willing to pay me, so that’s where the joke ended.”  Wanting to do a good job but having no instruction or experience, Joe used his fingers to hold small strips of hair as he carefully cut and measured, learning to attained symmetry.  This finger-cutting method morphed into a system that is known today as Geometric Haircutting.

Little Joe was one of the first hair professionals to use a brush when coloring hair.  At the time, everybody was pouring color from a dispenser bottle directly onto hair.  “The brush gave me the ability to better direct the amount of color, allowing me to be selective and convert someone from salt-and-pepper hair to pepper-and-salt, or give natural-looking highlights to a blonde or a brunette in one process,” Little Joe says.  The resulting look is akin to nature.

During Little Joe’s first year working for Cosmo, he met Baron Richard Rennick, a master hair designer who created hair replacement solutions for men and women… and “characters” in movies.  Richard’s clients included many of Hollywood’s most famous celebrities in addition to “the man on the street.”  Richard taught Little Joe the intricacies of designing hair replacement solutions.  Little Joe has always had a “quiet reputation” as one of the best in the business.

Ginny Micale and Little Joe met in California when Joe owned Beverly Hills Hair Design in Beverly Hills and Ginny was in law school.  Ginny's background includes 12 years in the legal field, 11 spent as executive assistant to Hon. Evelle J. Younger, Attorney General of California and District Attorney of Los Angeles during the Tate/LaBianca murders and the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy.

After they were married, Joe invited Ginny to join him in the hairstyling business and the rest, as they say, is history.  To coin an old phrase, Ginny took to hairstyling “like a duck to water."

Joe's passion for hairstyling is matched only by his passion for writing.  He has written for movies and TV.  Starting in 2002, Little Joe wrote newspaper columns based on his experiences as Hairstylist to the Stars in Hollywood.  Those columns and other writings, covering more than 300 celebrities, have since been published in book form, now available at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com. Most everything written about in this website is completely detailed in Joe’s book.
